With the increased focus on the cost of water for industrial application, the use of AquaCap addresses four critical business issues.

1. Sustainability through reduced losses of a critical and precious resource;

Technical Development and Field Trials

The initial concept was an element of PhD research at RMIT University in Melbourne Australia. This was subsequently developed by Rio Tinto Technology together with the Rio Tinto Foundation for a Sustainable Minerals Industry.

In trials conducted by the National Centre for Engineering in Agriculture (NCEA), a number of evaporation control technologies were evaluated. The conclusion of this study:

When compared with other products tested on large in situ storages, Rio Tintos floating modules out-perform all other products.¹

Evaporative losses were reduced by 85% over the trial period.
